The No. 4 Texas Longhorns volleyball team dropped an early set, but was able to go on to win 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-18) over the Baylor Bears on Wednesday night in Waco.
Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani had a career-best hitting percentage of .833 as she put away 10 kills on 12 attempts. She also had a career-high 9 blocks in the win.
Three other Longhorns had double digit kills in the match that moved the team to 14-2 (6-0 Big 12). They remain undefeated in Big 12 play since Oct. 28, 2015 when they fell to TCU in Fort Worth.
Ebony Nwanebu and Micaya White tied for the lead in kills for Texas, each with 16. Nwanebu also had six digs, three blocks and an ace. White had eight digs to go along with two blocks.
Paulina Prieto Cerame contributed 12 kills and a season-high five blocks in the match.
Chloe Collins had 50 assists in the victory, her sixth match with at least that many. She chipped in six digs, three blocks and two kills.
Nicole Dalton led the team in digs with 12 just ahead of Cat McCoy who had 11.
Texas held a big block advantage as they had 16 to Baylor’s 3.
The Bears (15-6, 3-2 Big 12) took the first set with the help of a 5-1 run late in the game to take a 23-19 lead.
Texas responded in the next set with a 4-1 run followed by a 4-0 run to control the game.
The match swung on the third set in which Texas made use of two 3-0 runs to take a 15-11 lead.
The Bears held a 14-13 lead at one point in the fourth set but Texas was able to fight to a 20-17 advantage and hold on for the win.
Baylor was led by Katie Staiger who had 25 kills.
The Longhorns will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 against TCU at Gregory Gym.
