A quartet of Longhorns can now count themselves among the best volleyball players in the Southwest.

On Tuesday, senior Micaya White, sophomores Logan Eggleston and Jhenna Gabriel and freshman Skylar Fields all represented Texas on an all-region team compiled by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. White, Eggleston, Gabriel and Fields were honored alongside the top talents in the AVCA’s Southwest region. Fields was also named the Southwest’s freshman of the year.

The AVCA’s Southwest team recognized 14 players from Baylor, Oklahoma, Rice, Texas and Texas State.

White, Eggleston and Fields are respectively averaging 4.0, 3.55 and 2.56 kills per set this season. Each player is hitting over .300. Gabriel, the Longhorns’ second-year setter, is distributing 10.5 assists per set.

One notable omission from the AVCA’s all-region team was Texas middle blocker Brionne Butler, who is averaging 2.3 kills and 1.68 blocks per set. Butler, though, was not eligible for consideration. Butler was slowed at the beginning of her sophomore year by a lower extremity injury and appeared in only 45 of UT’s 85 regular-season sets. In order to be considered for all-region honors, players must participate in 2/3 of the sets played by their teams in the regular season.

Texas (23-3) will host Louisville (21-9) in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon.
