The Texas volleyball team rallied from a set down to take a 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 win over Kansas on Saturday night.
Four Longhorns had double-digit kills, led by Micaya White who recorded 16 on the night. She had a double-double, recording 10 digs, to go with four aces.
Logan Eggleston also had a double-double as she registered 15 kills and 15 digs for Texas. She also had four aces to tie for the team lead.
Skylar Fields and Brionne Butler each had 10 kills. Butler had a hitting percentage of .588, the highest of the players with double-digit kills. She also added four blocks. Asija O’Neal led Texas with eight blocks.
Jhenna Gabriel assisted on 43 points and had eight digs.
The currently No. 1 Longhorns (20-3, 14-1 Big 12) seemingly shook off the residue of a Wednesday loss to the Baylor Bears, getting out to an 8-3 lead in the first set. Kansas (8-16, 4-10) fought back, however, and the game eventually sat at 20-20. The Jayhawks closed out the first set on a 5-2 run.
With the score of the second game tied at 7-7, Texas went on a 4-0 run and never gave up the lead. The Longhorns led 21-17 and didn’t give up another point on the way to tying the match.
Texas took control of the match in the third game, going up 11-6 on a kill by Gabriel. The Jayhawks didn’t get much closer throughout the game, and a kill by Fields closed out the set.
The Longhorns went ahead 3-0 in the fourth set before Kansas rallied to take a 12-9 lead. Texas made a 5-0 run after that, though, going ahead 14-12. The Longhorns didn’t trail again and Eggleston had the final kill to take the match.
The Texas volleyball team closes out the regular season at Iowa State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
