Micaya White had 15 kills while Chiaka Ogbogu added 11 kills and seven blocks to lead the Longhorns volleyball team to a sweep of Texas Tech in Lubbock on Wednesday.
The Longhorns (15-2, 7-0 Big 12) defeated the Red Raiders 27-25, 25-12, 25-18 while outhitting Tech .376 to .152 for its 11th sweep of the season.
Ogbogu converted on 11-of-13 attacks for an outstanding hitting percentage of .376. It was a career high for the senior.
Ebony Nwanebu had 11 kills and hit .435 and was second on the team in blocks with four.
White hit .424 and added seven digs and two blocks. Freshman standout Lexi Sun hit just .062 while making six kills. She added eight digs.
Cat McCoy had 15 digs to lead Texas in the category while Ashley Shook added nine digs. Shook led Texas with 38 assists.
Texas fell behind in the first set and faced numerous set points as Tech (13-7, 2-5) took a 24-20 lead. After saving five set points, Texas closed out the set 27-25.
The Longhorns didn’t hesitate to take a big lead in the second set, racing out to a 10-1 advantage. Texas finished the set on a 15-11 run.
It looked as if the Red Raiders would take the third set after getting out to a 6-0 lead. Texas responded, however, tying the game up at 10-all. The Longhorns eventually took a 19-16 lead and finished off the set from there.
Texas next travels to Norman, Okla. to take on the Sooners Sunday at 3 p.m. The match will be televised on ESPN2.
